♥my birth was like, or, i want my birth to be like: my birth was far from easy... heres the link to
Monday December 27th I went to my ob for a regular weekly check up and this was my 38 week one. At first he told me that I wouldn't have him for another 2 weeks probably and that Chase had finally dropped and was really low. But then he went to get the machine to do an ultrasound on me to check his fluid levels since the week before they were a little low and when he checked there was barely any fluid in there. So he told me to go home pack my bags and eat some dinner and then head to the hospital to be induced that night. So Jason and I went back to my house packed my bags and got Chase's diaper bag and then went to Ihop to meet my parents and brother there for dinner.
After dinner me and Jason headed to the hospital. When we got there they didn't know that I was being induced so they put in a room and had me change and get into bed so they could hook me up to the monitors and start my IV. Then around 8:20 they started they inserted this pill in me to dialate me since I was only a finger tip.. which didn't dialate me only helped to thin out the rest of my cervix. I was also starting to lose my mucus plug then from my OB appt. So Monday night we just sat around and watched TV and I got to have my last actual meal before being cut off from food. They got me a sandwich and cranberry juice with sprite in it. That night though my aunt, my mom, my dad, Jason’s mom, Jason’s dad, his step dad and his sister all came to the hospital to see me for a little bit, but they didn’t stay to long since there wasn’t going to be that much going on that night. My mom and aunt stayed the night there with me and Jason though. So after everyone left we all tried to get some sleep around 11 pm or so even though I couldn’t sleep that well because I was starting to get cramps and Jason slept like a log that night!
Tuesday morning they started me on my pitcion and they gave me breakfast, but I couldn’t really eat it so I just ate a little bit of my french toast. After breakfast people started showing up again Jason’s family came back over and this time it was everyone and my dad came back too, but it wasn’t until later on in the day since he had something’s to do before he came out. Tuesday though was very uncomfortable for me so they ended up giving me 2 shots of morphine in my butt to help me relax a little and to get some sleep since I didn’t get that much sleep the night before. So I don’t really remember that much about what happened that day since all I did was sleep during the day. Tuesday night though was when things started to getting worse. When they checked my cervix Tuesday night I was finally 2 cm dialated and having contraction in the front and in my back. I didn’t sleep at all that night maybe 2 or 3 hours if that. And since I was in so much pain the nurse called the OB on call to see if I should get my epidural or get another shot of morphine since my OB had given special orders that I get my epidural at 3 cm instead of 4 or 5 like most people since I have a lot of back pain from my scolosis and being pregnant made it hurt even more. They let me have my epidural at 2 cm so when the the anthelogists came in he put some cleaning stuff on my back and boy did that sting!! I was crying the whole time it was being put on my back and Jason sat by me holding my hand and my mom too. Even though it wasn’t comfortable getting the epidural put in, it was worth it in the end! I couldn’t of done it without it. I don’t really remember anything else that happened from there Tuesday night since after the epidural I was happy again.
Wednesday morning though I was woken up by the nurse and the OB on call. The OB came in break my water since I was finally at 4 cm. After I got my water broken I pretty much slept until 1:00- 1:30 when my OB came in to check my cervix and to tell my I was 10 cm dialated and was ready to push. The nurse that was taking care of me then came in and started teaching me how to push and doing practice pushes with me and since I couldn’t tell when to push because I still had my epidural in they would tell me on the monitor when a contraction was coming. My epidural though started to wear off in the middle of trying to push and I was in so much pain that they had me stop pushing because I couldn’t do it anymore. So my nurse went and called my OB who ordered more stuff for my epidural, but it was stronger stuff too they said. Then we waited until 3:00- 3:30 for my OB to come to my room and to talk to me. My OB told me that if I got to the point where I was just to tired that he would either use the vacuum on me or give me c-section it was up to me. I chose the c-section I didn’t want the vacuum being used. When he got there he did the nurses job instead and got me pushing again and coached me thru it then he left to put on his scrubs while the nurse in there got the bed ready. She also took my temperature and I had 101 degree temperature at the time. So they called down some nurses to take care of Chase after he was born to make sure he didn’t have a fever either. When my OB got back in the room it took me 40 minutes to push Chase out with my mom and Jason holding up my legs and them telling me when to push during a contraction. We ended up using the vacuum because I was tired and I was at the point where he wouldn’t do a c-section since they could see his head right there and all I needed was one more big push to get him out. Jason got to cut his cord too. Once Chase was out they took him to the warming table to get checked out so I didn’t get to have him placed on me right away like I wanted, but that’s okay. It’s more important that he get checked for a fever anyways.
After I was all cleaned up and only got a few stitches I think. I finally got to eat my first meal and drink something and get something for my fever. I was tired after 44 hours of labor that I was falling asleep when Chase was getting his first bath and my dinner got cold because I fell asleep. Everyone though that was there before during my labor came back to see Chase after he was born since they were all out in the waiting room. My brothers ended up coming out too later on that night as they were moving me, Jason and Chase to our room upstairs so they helped carry everything up there for us.
We stayed in the hospital for one night after Chase was born. They released me after dinner Thursday night since I wanted to see my cousin before he left for Iraq since he was leaving to go back to Texas on Saturday.
My labor took so long because Chase wasn't responding well to the pitocin with his heartrate it kept going up and down. And then I couldn't take the stronger contractions from it either so they had to keep turning it down on me, but in the end he was worth all the pain I was in for 2 days and I would do it all over again if I had to.
